Rain boots and rain shoe covers: stylish and/or comfy solution?

Many of you have (probably at least once in your life) come to need rain boots. When we were small children, we sometimes used rain boots – coloured or plain (or taken over from our siblings – no matter of their design or even which gender we were).

When we were teenagers and later on as adults, we didn’t have as many opportunities to use comfortable rain boots (if you hike every weekend, even in rain, then you are an exception). What most of the former rain boots users do not know is that even such boots can be stylish and can even complete one‘s outfit.

And there is an even more modern solution: rain shoe covers. We put them on when it starts to rain and take them off as soon as it stops raining. These cover our normal shoes so there is no need to have another pair of shoes in our closet (but as a woman I always embrace having another pair of shoes at home).

Rain boots: old-fashioned, but comfortable

There is a lot of old-fashioned styles, but there are also modern types of rain boot. Whether you need to complete your outfit or go hiking or fishing, there are a lot of great products to choose from, and you don’t need to worry about whether they will be comfortable – they usually are.

Sometimes they are filled with cotton or wool “sock” for more dry and warm feeling, however, this could also cause more sweaty feeling (but this depends on the exact purpose/recommended usage of the rain boots) and usually it is possible to take the whole “sock” out permanently.

The material used is mostly rubber or some combination of rubber and/or PVC.

tall rain boots

The advantage is, as mentioned earlier, the rain boots could be quite comfy, but the old types sometimes look rural and women (men as well, of course) might not feel they are so stylish wearing such rain boots. Also, some of those are not ideal for city walking.

Luckily, for those people, who are looking for ideal rain boots (even for the city walking), we can recommend another solution.

Modern walking

With the modern types, which do not fit so much to the natural usage, come  a new era of quite practical and stylish rain boots, which are also ideal for longer city walking (it depends on each model, whether longer city walk could be still comfortable or just annoying and sweaty,).

Therefore the importance of the material used in the boots is much higher.

However, such modern boots are not meant to be used for hiking (the shorter ones are not at all, the longer ones in some cases could be used for hiking as well, but need to be from quality material and have ideally a grip sole).

The desing of modern rain boots is quite better than it has been in the past and a lot of known producers have started to offer such modern boots in the stores. Of course, we can recommend some as well on our website.

Singing in the rain: put on your rain shoe covers and go

Many of the normal city walking shoes are not waterproof at all and therefore could be easily destroyed after some time walking in the rain or through the water. Even their producers does not recommend using them this way.

What if you bought new, wonderful shoes, that were not water resistant and it starts to rain (e.g. during a visit in a foreign country you would like to go for sightseeing, but it should rain from time to time during the day)?

One option could be to go buy another pair of waterproof shoes and wear them during such a rainy day, but another solution (and much more straightforward and cheaper as well) would be to have the rain shoe covers – let’s see what this means and why you also could consider using them as e.g. in the above case?

Rain shoe cover

Rain shoe covers have one great feature: they covers your shoes, protect them from rain and water and are still quite comfortable. The way they look is not ideal, still,  but it is a cheaper solution than throwing away your new shoes due to walking in the rain.

Also, they are re-usable, and could be comfortably stashed in your bag or backpack. You can put them on and take them off is very quickly due to the zipper easy opening/closing.

The ones we offer are for women as well for men and also have another plus – as they have a grip sole and also have an elastic strap, so you can freely adjust the tightness to avoid the cover falling off, which assures you all-around protection.

The pros and cons of rain boots and rain shoe covers are shown below:

rain boots vs. rain shoe covers

Which one to choose.. (and why it matters)

Whether you prefer shoe covers or the rain boots, the best information we have is that there are a lot of products to be chosen from. The most fun are for small children as there are a lot of cute, coloured rain boots (for them rain boots are much more comfortable and suitable – you know, how children enjoy the water and rain, right?).

For adults, there are so many stylish and at same time practical rain boots, in which you even don’t sweat and still feel good after long walking.

Still, the rain boots should serve the purpose you need them for, and in case of hiking plans, be aware of which material of boots you choose, not all are suitable for such purposes. The same applies to longer city walking.

Rain boots women

We recommend to look around and see whether we can recommend a solution, which will suit you. Also be aware and always follow the size charts as sometimes the sizes are different in China, Russia, UK and in the US.

The seller can help you with size decisions or can recommend one size bigger than your normal shoes, but always read the instructions below the products.

We wish you pleasant searching!

Very nice and interesting things can be seen on your site.
I also found something I’ve been looking for for a long time, and I can tell you that you have delighted me.

Your site has been done well and has good and detailed descriptions, I do not think I would add anything to praise him.

    • Renata

      Hello Bojan,

Thank you so much for your kind comment and website evaluation. We are very happy you like our products. There will be a lot of another one in the future so hopefully, you will stop by and look at what new we can offer and recommend.

    Hey Renata,

Very informative article! I had no idea these shoe covers were a thing, but now that i have read about it, they sound great. I have to go in suit and tie to my work so it sounds like an ideal solution honestly!

As there a particular material i should be looking for that is best suitable for shoe covers?

    Thanks again,

    • Renata

Hello Bryan, thank you for your kind comment and for visiting my website.

As for the rain shoe covers, the best material is probably flexible PVC as are e.g. in this product (you can see the video there as well), but I believe most of the covers are from such material, so here depends on the allover function, what is sufficient and if there are other features you would appreciate or not.

Anyway, thank you for stopping by, it was a pleasure to show you know something, which could suit you and have a nice day!

      Bye Renata

Hmm, the last time I used boots is when I wore combat boots for my high school military training, which was a decade ago. I’ve never considered actually using boots especially for the rain, but now because of your guide I’m slightly interested to try it out.

But seeing your other option, rain shoe cover, I’m also inclined to using it because it seems easier to put on and take off. Now I’m just not sure which brands are perfect for rain boots and which ones for rain shoe covers, so definitely I’m open to suggestions since you’re an expert at these items.

    • Renata

      Hello Dominic,

In relation to brands – honestly we do not recommend some branded products, but the best product offered on the internet all over. For the usage is more important for which purpose you need the rain boots/rain shoe covers.

You can find on our website different types. If you would appreciate the rain covers more, they are suitable for the city walking (to protect your normal shoes), however, the rain boots could be comfortable as well and could be stylish same time (but sometimes little bit sweaty).
Rain shoe covers could have quite limited usage.
Now it is up to your decision, for which purpose you would have them.

Thank you anyway for stopping by and have a nice day!

      Bye Renata

  • Marios Tofarides

    Hey there Renata,

I prefer rain boots. Being a Boy Scout, I have a pair of Goretex sports shoes as well as Goretex walking boots. I need them not only for hiking but for everyday activities as well.

In addition to that, shoe covers, although not stylish, might come handy when a sudden rain occurs and the shoes I’m wearing might be canvas, plimsols or similar type of shoes. In that occasion, I would use a shoe cover for the occasion.

    • Renata

      Hello Marios,
Thank you for your kind comment and your insight on this topic! We offer and will offer more products to be chosen, whether covers or rain boots so hopefully one day you will choose on our website your favourite boots as well.

Thank you for your time to visit our website and have a great day!

  • Mariana

    Hello Renata,
This is my first time reading about rain shoe covers and they seem so practical! I have a pair of black pain boots but I hardly ever wear them because it doesn’t rain that much in my city.
The rain shoe covers also are very useful when travelling and easier to carry around, because they don’t occupy much space in a suitcase, unlike boots. I wish I had some of those before, but now I will try to find them and buy a few. Do you recommend somewhere online where they sell them?  And if they ship internationally, it would be so great.
Thank you for your thorough review and letting me know about rain shoe covers! I’ll definitely check out your other posts.

Great work with your website, keep going!

    • Renata

      Dear Mariana,

Thank you for stopping by and your kind comment!

We would recommend the one we are offering right now (you can watch the video as well so you can see how it works in reality), but later on we will have more to recommend, the shipping is international, so no worries.

Thank you for your visit and my website evaluation and wish you all the best!

      Bye Renata

This is an interesting niche product. Great images and clearly written article.
Coming from a tropical country myself where the weather is usually either hot and humid, or hot and rainy, rain shoe covers are such a great option! I haven’t seen these for sale in Singapore, so there would be a market for rain shoe covers here! Rain boots may not be as popular as most working people here dress up in pumps, court shoes or heels.

One question though – will rain shoe covers get hot and stuffy, especially in the tropics? Is that a con as well?

    • Renata

      Hello June,

What an interesting insight for the tropical country usage – well, honestly I am not sure really, however, I believe when it stops rain than is better to take it off (also for the feeling of the user) and when it rains it should keep wet itself, so from this point of view there is no need for the covers to be hot and stuffy, but we will know more after someone try some covers in tropical country and let us know. But I would not be afraid of it, honestly.

Thank you for stopping by, for your kind evaluation of our website and wish you all the best!

      Bye Renata

Hello Renata, I must say that this article is very helpful and informative. Honestly, I don’t like rain and shoes, I prefer sneakers but I can’t go against the weather. It is strange that I did not hear or saw those rain covers, it looks so powerful and modern. I will definitely get one as now is that time where rain happens more often. Thank you for sharing such great info.

    • Renata

      Hello Daniel,

Thank you very much for your kind comment! The rain shoe covers are definitely the right choice for those people, who do not like to wear rain boots. Hopefully, you will try one sometimes. We will have also more types of the rain shoe covers on our website later on.

Have a nice day and thank you for stopping by!

      Bye Renata

    Hi Renata,

This is great info on rain boot and rain shoe covers. I don’t have rain boot because of how I think they look, but I like the idea of making them more stylish so that they can be fashionable. The rain shoe cover seems like a good idea and I think it’s a must have. You never want rain to destroy your expensive Adidas or Nike kick so the rain shoe cover is a good idea.

    Thanks for sharing

    • Renata

Thank you for stopping by and your kind comment. I am glad I have shown another solution beside to wear rain boots. We will add more types of the rain shoe covers so later on you can choose from more related products.

    Thank you, Renata,

Growing up with mostly women around me I understand how a woman loves her shoe. My sisters also would use rain boots or any other specific type as a stylish piece to their outfit. I think style and fashion have grown to it play different level and it did 100 years ago it will only continue to grow Hey the changes that are made sometimes it lasts forever.

    • Renata

Thank you for your kind coment! Yes, currently there is a lot of modern looking rain boots, so you do not realise that they are used against rain when you see them on some stylish women. Hopefully the trend will go on and if you wish to pick some, try to stop by later on, our offer will be much higher.

      Bye Renata

I have typically avoided most rain boots because they tend to hurt my ankles and are awkward to walk in. However, I never knew there were so many options! Especially ones that could just go over my regular shoes. What a neat invention. I am going to have to go buy a pair and try them out now, its rain season where I live so its the perfect time. Thanks for the great info!

    • Renata

Thank you for stopping by and your kind comment. You are right, the rain boots are definitely not for eveyrone. But, lately, I have noticed, that a lot of stylish women wears modern rain boots. This was a big inspiration for me as well. Rain shoe covers are solution as well, however, as mentioned in the post, those have some cons as well, so choose the rights carefully:).

      Bye Renata

Yes your site is Fantastic there are only small things I can say to add to your site one thing i can say is add more content with umbrella although it’s very important for you to continue to add all products that are connected to bad weather such as the rain.

Add more rain coats to your kids rainwear section you always want to have a big selection this way people can always have a big selection.

Add items to your kids plain umbrella section, never create a section unless you have product or content to add their. Blank pages leaves low rankings on google. Always keep content & products always remain consistent. That’s pretty much wrap everything up your page is till wonderful all you pretty much have to do is just add product

    • Renata

Thank you very much for your kind feedback to my website, I really appreciate it. I will definitely put another productsto my website, so far it was necessary to have something and check the function all over, now there is time to put more products.

Anyway, thank you for all your insight and suggestions.

      All the best
